20 Questions with Emma Macgregor

What was your very first job?

Working at a cafe in Mooloolaba beach at 14.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Visual Merchandiser

What do you love about working in Positive Feeds?

I love seeing faces - both well known and new customers come in and experience the stories of our family of Suppliers. It’s my favourite bit and warms my heart.

Who is your favourite customer?

I’m a sucker for a fellow experimental cook. One who loves to discover and isn’t scared to try new things.

If you could only eat one thing from the Positive Feeds range for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Ooooh close one between the Living Koko Tahitian Rum Dark Chocolate and the new Tom Yum Yippeas Chickpea Puffs by Get Farmed.

What sustainability initiatives do you practise at home?

I have a full recycling cupboard that was built during my renovation - a place where I can collect bottle tops, foil, batteries, soft plastics and glass. I save shoes in another cupboard and do a big drop off at once. I also save seeds from produce I buy and use them for the following year’s crop to try to grow (actually lots more but that's a good start for now)!

Do you have any creative outlets or hobbies?

I try to make as much as I can, like artwork, wall hangings, gardening, and I am a regular at my gym each week.  I have also just started SUP (stand up paddling) and hope to have more time and less wind to do this too!

Beer or wine?

Generally wine or gin, but I really enjoy the odd craft beer too.

Tea or coffee?

Coffee, then coffee.

What’s your favourite local cafe?

Ooh our new local Newport startup, Indi-Kitch on Melbourne Road, or fave Searz Caffi on Challis Street for incredible Bibimbap!!!

What’s your favourite local watering hole?

Tough… Junction Hotel Newport with walking friends. Lower West Side wine bar in Williamstown with hubby and Chip’s Loft Footscray with the (teen) family - they have a pool table and we can get a good bahn mi on the way.

What’s your favourite local restaurant?

We love ALY Food which we started ordering in during Covid. It’s local Greek Chef Alex Xinis (ex Hellenic). He now has a new restaurant I am keen to get to called Classico on St Kilda Rd. Not local, but by a local. That works for me.

What’s your favourite meal to cook?

Tough one. My family has different tastes to me which makes it harder. I adore richer meals when cooking to entertain. Maybe a lamb shoulder with barley and fig…yummm. We mostly eat Asian at home during the week. Easy and light and my hubby has perfected some Cantonese-style sauces.

What was the last place you travelled overseas?

Krabi, Thailand.

What are you reading at the moment?

I LOVE Delicious magazines, but am really bad with taking the time to read novels. Attention span is awful, sadly.

What are you STREAMING?

A few things on all sorts of services. My good friend has produced a series her teen niece wrote about diversity and non-bias inclusiveness in the teen world, which I am watching with my daughter called ‘More than This’ on Paramount Plus. Hubby and I are watching the latest Ozark and I catch up on Orange is the New Black when I have time (not often!)

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I am one of 4 daughters and grew up on the Sunshine Coast. For someone who supports Victoria and the West so passionately through our business model, it is surprising to some that I am not from here (and why I ever moved from QLD!). I often get, “Oh your poor Dad. 5 girls in the house!” It was certainly a powerhouse!

What’s the last picture on your phone?

I found a fig tree growing out from under the house… scary!!

Do you have any pets?

Ha! 2 in one pic. Yes, we have 2 cats. One is a fairly new COVID kitten called Jyn. She was under my feet at the time I brought the fig into the house.
